A guardianship in California is a Court Proceeding for the protection of a child or "minor." The old fashion term was "ward." The Court process is parallel to conservatorship. Some states use this term to refer to Adults when the proceedings involve personal care. California only uses the term conservator when the subject is an adult. All children's proceedings are called "guardianships."
